Recently been retrenched?

Considering taking the package?

Feeling overwhelmed and alone?

If your answer to any of the above is yes, or if you are hearing whispers of your company embarking on a retrenchment process… then this article is aimed at you…

Retrenchment for anyone can be hard.  The feeling of complete overwhelming loss can make it difficult for anyone to get into action.  Whilst logic tells us that getting into action can help you to get out of the slump, avoid depression and assist in slowly moving forward, this may be very difficult.

So what can you do that will be useful?

There are a number of factors to consider:

  1. Look at your budget, do you need to trim and where is the best place to do it?  What are essentials and what can be done without?  Make a new budget.
  2. Do an in-depth analysis of your finances.  What is your current situation and how long will you survive without income?
  3. Put a plan in place, what needs to be done and by when.
  4. List your skills and focus on your strengths and areas of development.  Make use of short courses which are available on line to up-skill yourself.
  5. Identify your dream job, perhaps this is the time to do something you have always wanted to do, explore the options.
  6. Stay calm, talking things through with someone else can help to keep things in perspective.
  7. Be kind to yourself.  Look after your mental state, exercise has proven to be a good stress relief, as well as meditation or any other form of creativity.  Keep doing your usual exercise or introduce an outlet of your choice to keep your stress levels lower.

If you are feeling overwhelmed and need some guidance and space to explore your options, then we at Changing Lanes Consultancy can assist in getting you back on track.
